Last-minute planning department: I'll be bringing a whole lot of minicomics and related artifacts to Burning Man next week, to set up some kind of tiny library/show-and-tell at my camp. If you happen to be in Black Rock City, come say hi at [[http://bioluminati.com/|Bioluminati]] (5:30/Biology).

things to see in San Francisco

This is kind of the last minute, but you're advised to go to these cool things featuring some Hobonians:

* Friday, February 27, through Sunday, March 1: [[http://www.comic-con.org/wc/|WonderCon]]. [[Lark Pien]] has a table, and [[Joey Sayers]] and [[Andy Hartzell]] are on some nifty panels (Saturday 1:30, Sunday 2:00).
* Sunday, March 1, 8 pm: [[MariNaomi]] reads with 7 other artists at Kimo's, 1351 Polk St. She's also in an art show at Studio Gallery (1815 Polk), with an opening reception on March 15. More information on both.
* Earlier this month through March 8: [[Lark Pien]] has a solo show at [[http://www.studiogallerysf.com/|Studio Gallery]].

Also: this is very loosely related to comics, but if you're at all fond of drawings, animation, handmade things, or just the several interesting qualities of the human race, it's hard to overstate the greatness of the South African artist William Kentridge. There's a big Kentridge show at SFMOMA starting March 15 with lots of related events, and a documentary about him showing in Berkeley.

insert primate joke here

As the little thing in the left sidebar says, the [[http://www.comic-con.org/ape/|Alternative Press Expo]] is coming up on November 1 & 2 here in balmy San Francisco. APE is in my opinion one of the better products of Western civilization, or certainly a nice way to pass a couple of days and spend all your money on beautiful objects, and if you're going to hang out in a convention center then the Concourse is not a bad one. This year is particularly exciting because (a) there seem to be ridiculously many more exhibitors, so many that they've moved the overpriced snack stand somewhere else to make room for tables, and (b) the special guests include Brooklyn eminences [[http://www.jessicaabel.com/|Jessica Abel]], [[http://mattmadden.com/|Matt Madden]], and [[http://www.girlhero.com/|Megan Kelso]], and also [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Ware|that peanut-head guy]].

In order to enhance the general coolness of APE by contrast, we made a lame error. The table listed as Global Hobo in the program guide is actually [[Thien Pham]] and [[Briana Miller]]. Global Hobo will be sharing a table with [[Damien Jay]], Melanie Lewis, and Brian Kaas; look for Damien's name in the guide. It's in the same area, and it's all good anyway.
